About
One page per contract. Every number sourced.
FuturesSpecs brings together what traders otherwise look up in five places: contract specifications, tick values, exchange margins, roll and expiry dates, trading hours and CFTC positioning.
Who is behind the site
FuturesSpecs is built and maintained by Thomas Blees in Berlin, Germany. Thomas publishes Meine Geldseite, a German-language site about investing and trading. FuturesSpecs is its English-language reference for futures traders.
What you find here
The site currently covers 64 futures contracts across stock indexes, interest rates, energy, metals, currencies, agriculture, softs, livestock and crypto – including the popular Micro contracts. Every contract page shows the same sections, so you always know where to look.
Where the data comes from
| Data | Source | Update |
|---|---|---|
| Contract specifications | CME Group and ICE Futures U.S. contract specifications | Reviewed manually |
| Exchange margins | CME Group and ICE Clear U.S. published margins | Manually when the exchange announces a change; dated on every page |
| Roll, first notice and expiry dates | Calculated from exchange expiration rules and the US exchange holiday calendar | Daily |
| COT positioning | CFTC Public Reporting Environment (Commitments of Traders, futures only) | Weekly, after the Friday release |
How the numbers are calculated
- Dates follow each contract's written termination rule – for example "third Friday of the contract month" or "three business days before the 25th of the prior month" – adjusted for US exchange holidays. The calculations are tested against published exchange dates.
- COT readings use the methods described by Stephen Briese and Larry Williams: net positions, the COT Index over 26 weeks and 3 years, the 6-week Movement Index and WILLCO. The COT guide explains each one.
- Tick and point values are derived from the contract size and minimum tick in the specifications.
Accuracy
The site is checked carefully, but exchanges change rules, holidays and margins – sometimes at short notice. Before you trade around a date or a margin figure, confirm it with the exchange or your broker; every page links to the official source. If you spot an error, please let us know.
How the site is funded
FuturesSpecs is free to use. It may be financed by advertising and by clearly marked affiliate links – for example the TradingView chart links on each contract page. Neither influences the data: specifications, dates, margins and COT readings come from the sources above only.
Not investment advice
Everything on this site is for education and reference. Nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell a financial instrument. Futures trading involves substantial risk of loss.
